Pordic (Port of Ic), a town of 6000 people on the Ic river, has seen its population double since the 60s. However, in many respects, the town centre remains that of the rural village Pordic was 30 years ago. Several refurbishment projects have been carried out, however there has been no real «master plan». The municipality has therefore decided to study the question of upgrading its centre through a comprehensive redevelopment project that will particularly focus on public places and facilities.
The main challenges are:
coherently incorporating existing buildings, heritage sites, new facilities and the town’s relationship with its maritime facade
revitalising the town centre and local businesses (notably by relocating the current town hall to place it closer to the centre)
implementing a 4 ha urban extension to the north of the town for mixed use (housing, shops and services)
applying a sustainable development approach to the project (light transport links, reduced ecological impact of landscaping work, energy conservation, development of social connections)
developing social housing: in parallel to the development project, a mission to assist the embellishment of the town with flowers was undertaken in order to participate in the enhancement of the built environment and Pordic’s heritage features.
